Cheerleader guns for Los Angeles Lakers

Frenchs Forest's Kelly Burke is on the verge of becoming a cheerleader for the world famous Los Angeles Lakers.Ms Burke, 22, will fly out to the US next week to try and beat thousands of dancers for a spot on either the Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers cheerleading squads.

Both professional basketball teams are among the most marketable sporting franchises in the US.
And though she will be up against stiff competition, the blonde beauty is confident that being an Australian - who has dual citzenship with the US - will give her an edge.

"This is at least something that will make me stand out," she said. "I'm hoping it will at least make them look at me twice."
Ms Burke, who has been a cheerleader for the Parramatta Eels and the Sydney Kings, decided she wanted to cheer for a US basketball team last year after watching a Lakers game live.

"I travelled to America last year with a girlfriend and watched a game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Lakers where the Lakers won in the last second ... I was just like 'this is what I want to do'," she said.

Ms Burke recently completed a bachelor of commerce, receiving high achievement merit awards.

Dee Why cheerleader enters
 Lingerie Football League

MEET the Dee Why cheerleader set to get down and dirty as a competitor in next year's Australian version of the Lingerie Football League.

Courtney Watts tackled, ran and passed her way on to the Sydney team in the league try-outs last month on the back of successful stints as a cheerleader for the Parramatta Eels and the Sydney Kings National Basketball League team.

And while the blonde bombshell may be easy on the eye in skimpy lingerie, the 23-year-old is adamant she isn't all about just looking good on the field.

"I love football and being a cheerleader it's nice to now be in the field of play rather than on the sidelines ... so bring it on," Ms Watt, a personal trainer, said.

"Even though I'm probably one of the smallest girls (to qualify for the team in trials) I'm fast and defence-wise I can work on that."

And Ms Watts had a message for those who question the legitimacy of lingerie football as a sport.
"We are real women playing real sport," she said.

Feels like forever!! xx

Hello hello Pretty Pom Pom Pixies!

Goodness i feel like i haven't fed my pom pom addiction for such a long time! Ive been missing in action for quite some time now but im back in my throne and what a fabulous and sunny day to get right back into it!!

The NRL season feels like it has just whizzed by so quickly this year and i just want to hit the pause button for a few weeks.... Are you feeling me girlfriends? Each and every game and appearance we get to do just gets more and more fun/exciting and it would be fabulous if the season was just that little teeny tiny bit longer!

New girls (rookie cheerleaders) on each squad are well and truly settled into their teams by now and after having many games under their belts - everyone by this time of the year is really one big tight unit! I personally love seeing the rookies really come into their own after many weeks learning and mastering chorey, new hair and make up tricks and most of all feeling confident out on the field (which can be ever so daunting at first!).

Another favourite of mine is that the Big League Cheerleader of the Year finals are well underway and i just looove seeing the fresh faces from each squad each year! Always so many lovely ladies to chose from and its always fun seeing who makes that exclusive final 4 - then wins it!!!

I have to warn you all though - brace yourselves for a tiny bit of favouritism on my end (ok maybe a lot)- my baby sister Prudence is the yummy entrant for Manly this year and she has made it to the final 16! I burst with pride looking at her in her Seabird Uniform and just love seeing her beautiful pics lighting up the pages of Big League! Go Girl!
